Landing in a theater near you!

A lot of us are looking forward to the movie The Big Year, which opens October 14. The story revolves around a bored executive (Steve Martin), a husband in a mid-life crisis (Owen Wilson) and a do-nothing slob (Jack Black) who, seeking escape from the normalcy of their lives, embark on a year of bird watching. Not just casual bird watching, mind you. A Big Year: a quest to log in the most species in a year’s time, which of course, turns into a crazy competition between the three main characters by air, by boat, on skis—all over North America. It’s based on Mark Obmascik's well-reviewed book of the same name, and directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley and Me). You can view the movie trailer here. For all of us who have participated in bird counts, Big Sits, even our own Big Year, this movie could be fun, even if the emphasis is more on goofball comedy than birds. The Eagle Optics staff is going. Let us know what you think, but no spoilers, please!
