Binoculars Reward With Unique Details

The Dark Eyed Juncos have returned and I often find myself standing at the window with binoculars glued on these captivating little birds. Before binoculars, all juncos looked the same. With the benefit of binoculars, unique details and color variations are now well-defined.juncojpeg.jpg The first visitor to my backyard was an elegantly suited guy, decked out in plumage reminiscent of a tuxedo. Their gray feathers shimmer like beautiful silk fabric. Other juncos will have less polished but still distinctive markings. One visitor has been dubbed "Mo" because of a Mohawk style brown stripe down the middle of his head. (Photo courtesy of Mike McDowell)
