When a new and exciting sport optic appears at Eagle Optics, we are like kids with a new toy-except we share very well. The new Pentax DCF ED has arrived and made the rounds through our staff. We all like what we see and think you will too. Four full-size options are available, as Pentax is offering the DCF ED in sizes 8x32, 8x43, 10x43, and 10x50. Both the 8x32 and 8x43 have nice fields of view at 393 feet/1000 yards and 330 feet/1000 yards, respectively. The close focus for the 8x32 is 4.9 feet and the 8x43 close focus is 6.6 feet. These specifications make both sizes especially good for bird watchers.
While checking out the Pentax DCF ED 8x43, I found a lot of good qualities that are bound to be appreciated. I noticed immediately the bright view and the true color. Although it is a sunny day today, I would expect to enjoy the same brightness on overcast days due to the ED glass optical elements. The lens elements provide very desirable edge to edge sharpness. The binocular resolution and contrast also offered a favorable result. I did notice very slight color fringing and slight field curvature; neither interfered with enjoyment of the binocular. At 25.2 ounces, the DCF ED 8x43 is well balanced in the hand. The binocular features a magnesium alloy body construction with full rubber housing to protect the binoculars from shock. Overall, this binocular is a great addition to the Pentax line and I expect you will see them out in the field soon..
Stay in touch. We have more new products on the way. Staff reviews of binoculars should start posting soon!
